Van Dijk talked about how he was likened to Arsenal defender David Luiz and ex-Newcastle United centre back FabricioColoccini. The Reds player went on to add that he mirrors his game on that of Brazilian player Ronaldinho.

FabricioColoccini spent several years at Newcastle United before he returned to his native Argentina to continue his football career. For David Luiz, the Brazilian centre back has featured for teams like Benfica in Portugal, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in France and Chelsea in England apart from the Gunners.

Liverpool player Van Dijk has missed the majority of this season as a result of the serious knee injury suffered in the Merseyside Derby encounter at Everton earlier in the season. He has started to kick the ball but faces race against time to fit before the season ends in six weeks’ time.

The Reds have suffered from the absence of a key player like Dutchman Van Dijk and they are struggling to qualify for the Champions League next season as things stand on the league standings. Liverpool were not able to offer much threat to Manchester City in the title race despite their status as defending champions.

Van Dijk got a taste of British football for the first time at Celtic in Scotland before moving to Southampton. Liverpool paid a world record fee for a defender when they signed him for £75m in January 2018 and he went on to help the club win the Champions League in his first season and the Premier League in his second season at the club. He was second behind Lionel Messi of Barcelona in the race for the 2019 Ballon d’Or Award.
