COLOCCINI DELVES INTO HOW TOON CHAIRMAN AL-RUMAYYAN INSPIRED ISAK MOVE

index 0
Newcastle United signed Alexander Isak last month, and the deal was made possible by chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s presence at St James’ Park. The PIF chief was in attendance for the Magpies’ 3-3 draw with Manchester City, a thrilling encounter that saw Eddie Howe’s side go toe-to-toe with the Champions. It also saw Callum Wilson pick up a hamstring problem, further heightening the need for Newcastle to sign a striker before the transfer window closed. According to former Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini,  Al-Rumayyan was a key figure that led to Isak arriving for £59million. Coloccini stated that the Toon chairman decided that he wanted the club to ‘do something big’ in the transfer market that would help the team. And that’s what led to the Toon hierarchy pushing the boat out to land Isak. The 22-year-old had been linked with a move earlier in the summer, but was deemed too expensive. That was a disappointment, as he was a player who head of recruitment Steve Nickson had tracked for a long time.

THE COLOCCINI STAT THAT LEFT NEWCASTLE FANS IN AWE

index 0
Prior to Dan Burn’s arrival, the last time Newcastle United signed a centre-back was way back in August 2018, seeing Rafa Benitez sign Federico Fernandez from Swansea. If that stat wasn’t bad enough, showing how long we’ve had to wait for defensive reinforcements, just wait until the next one. Incredibly, a £13m deal for Burn was the first time we’ve spent more than £10m on a centre half since Fabricio Coloccini signed in 2008. In fact, prior to Dan Burn’s arrival from Brighton, we’ve only spent over £6m on a centre-back THREE times since Colo swapped Deportivo for Tyneside 14 years ago:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cq-nODLWIAAgbey.jpg Former Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini has revealed that he would so much cherish the idea of being called back to the Argentina national team after a long time out of the setup. The former Premier League defender now plays for Argentine Primera Division side Aldosivi. After beginning his career in his home country with Boca Juniors, one of Argentina's best club teams, he started to attract interest from a number of clubs across Europe, including Italian Serie A giants AC Milan. He sealed a transfer to the San Siro from Boca Juniors but it was not a fairytale spell for him in Italy and was loaned to four different clubs afterward. He recently played for Newcastle in the English Premier League but he was yet again unlucky and could not replicate the form that saw him gain a lot of media attention at Boca Juniors. He could not cope with the intensity and the rush of the English League and after also battling against a lack of form and inconsistency, there was very little or nothing he could do to convince the Newcastle bosses that he still had what it takes to put his career back on track and from there it was agreed by mutual consent that the best decision would be to leave St James' Park.
