WE CAN COMPETE

The Newcastle United captain and defender Fabricio Coloccini has said that he is confident that the team can compete in both the domestic and European campaigns this season. Newcastle United will be playing in the group stages of the Europa league as a result of finishing in fifth position in the Premier league last season.

The Europa league has been seen as a major inconvenience by the Premier league clubs because of the huge number of games without any major commercial interest. The Champions League, on the other hand, provides great financial rewards for the teams competing in all the stages.

As a result, it has been said that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will be only focusing on the domestic campaign this season, with the possibility of having a good run in either of the 2 cup competitions. However, the captain Fabricio Coloccini has said that the team has enough strength in depth to be able to fight on all fronts. The club will be playing against Aston Villa during this week. After the end of this match, they will face six matches in the European competitions from now till December, which is in addition to the already present games from the Capital One cup.

“The most important thing is the league, and then the FA Cup. Then we want to try to get good results in the other cups. For the players and the fans, it was very important. We fought hard last year to be in the Europa League, and for us, it’s important. We didn’t play well (against Atromitos). We should have won by more than one goal, but that happens. What is important is the result,” Coloccini told the Gazette. Newcastle have made a poor start to the new season after they have just one victory against Tottenham so far.
