Newcastle United have been one of the inconsistent teams in the Premier league this season. Even though they have won crucial matches against Chelsea and a draw against the likes of Liverpool, losses against bottom teams have left them closer to the relegation zone. This has meant that there was a lot of pressure manager Alan Pardew. One of the problems has come in defence because Pardew has been unable to field Fabricio Coloccini, who has been one of the club’s defenders over the last five years.
The defender, who came close to leaving the club in the summer, has stated that the team is working extremely hard towards putting their inconsistencies down. Coloccini has been absent from the Newcastle first-team for the last month or so due to a groin injury. However, Pardew could be set for naming him as one of the starters in the weekend’s match against Tottenham, which could be one of the toughest over the course of the season. Newcastle, though, come into the encounter on the back of a confidence inspiring win over Chelsea last weekend.
Pardew’s men managed to play to their strengths against Chelsea and inflicted the first defeat in seven matches for Jose Mourinho’s men. They could do the same against Tottenham as well.
“We are working hard and we want the same as the fans. They want results, and we want them as well. We are working for that. We are going to have bad times and good times. We have to be quiet and accept the criticism. Sometimes it is maybe realistic if we do not get the results,” said the 30-year-old ahead of the match. Coloccini came close to leaving the club for his home country last January, but the club refused to sell him for much less than his transfer fee.
