COLOCCINI: STAY

admin 0

Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini has said that he hopes that most of the players from the spectacular season that Newcastle have had will remain at the club next season as well. Despite being in the Championship only a few seasons ago, Newcastle United had an extremely good season to almost grab a Champions League spot under the noses of both Tottenham and Arsenal. However, three defeats in the final four matches of the season meant that they had to be content with the Europa league spot for now. However, there has been a lot of interest in the Newcastle players including Fabricio Coloccini.

The 29 year old defender, though, has said that he hopes that most of the players decide to stay at the St James’s Park. One of the main players whose future is under question is striker Demba Ba. He is thought to be extremely unhappy at the way his role has changed within the club after the arrival of Cisse. The former West Ham United striker was a major hit at the club in the first six months of the campaign, but failed to score in the second half of the campaign due to the presence of Cisse upfront. He has been linked with a move to one of the top four clubs in England.

“Of course I would like the team to stay together. I think the most important thing is to keep the spine of this team together, then hopefully we will bring in some players to help us. It is very important that we keep that backbone for Europe next season. And of course having some new players would be very welcome. There is always speculation in the summer but it will be nice for it not to be about me this time,” he told The Journal.
